WORLD-WIDE AUTHORITIES OF TOURISM WILL MEET IN ECUADOR IN 2006 |
The Minister of Tourism, Maria Isabel Salvador presented that unanimously Ecuador was chosen in Dakar, Senegal, like seat of the next meeting of the Executive Council of the OMT, anticipated for March of 2006
The development of this appointment that congregated to Ministers and Authorities of Tourism of 146 countries of the world constituted a window, through which Ecuador showed its great tourist potential, representing in two of its great strengths; nature and culture, indicated the Minister Salvador
In the meeting of Dakar, Ecuador was re-elected like first Vice-president of the Executive Council the World-wide Organization of Tourism OMT, for period 2006-2007, within the framework of the Sixteenth General Assembly of this organism made in Dakar- Senegal between the 25 and 30 of November
The announcement made by the Minister of Tourism Maria Isabel Salvador, who participated in the General Assembly of the OMT. The Executive Council is in charge to direct the work of the OMT to global scale
This tourist organism groups to 146 countries and 300 affiliated members that represent the private sector, educational institutions and local authorities of tourism
The Minister Salvador indicated that one of the central subjects of the sixteenth meeting was the analysis around the contribution of the tourism to the sustainable development and the reduction of the poverty in the world
She assured that only the development of a responsible tourism in each one of the countries will allow contributing to the attainment of the Objectives of Development of the Millennium, raised by the United Nations.

The Ministry of Tourism presented the campaign "Ecuador is you. How being a good tourist and a great host". The objective of this campaign that spreads from the first of December on national scale is to raise awareness in all Ecuadorians about the necessity to treat each other well, the user, the tourist, the visitor in general. Around 30 associations and tourist unions of the country were committed to work together and signed the Acta-Compromiso.
The Federation of Tourism Chambers the country, the Association of Hotelkeepers of Ecuador, the Association of Travel Agencies, the Association of Tour Operators, the Multinational Federation of Community Tourism of Ecuador, the Association of Tour Operators of the Galapagos, the Association of Wholesalers of Tourism, the Company of Community Transport, the Federation of Small Retailers of Pichincha, the Association of Patios of Food of Carcelén, the Union of Districts of Quito and the Association of Taxi drivers Parliament, among others subscribed to the agreement within the framework of a ceremony that was held last Thursday in the Foch Square
As part of this campaign, the Ministry of Tourism will enable after the 30 of January 2006 the different invited unions and other organizations of the country who have the necessity to learn more about "how being good tourists and great hosts". Treated is how to cultivate the culture of respect in all levels and sectors of the Ecuadorian society
For the occasion of the World Tourism Day (September 27), the Ministry of Tourism already put in circulation a manual of the good tourist and great host with advice and Decalogue that help all that work with any activities involved in the tourist branch. For this occasion 15.000 additional units of the manual mentioned will be distributed that now contains, in addition, information to the public transport. The texts for the production of this document were made by the Polytechnic School of the Coast, by the Interinstitutional Corporation de Education, Security and Road Prevention (Covial) and by the Ministry of Tourism.
The Minister of Tourism, Maria Isabel Salvador, has put as goal for the short and medium term, to turn Ecuador in one of the 5 best destinations of the American continent. For it, she considers that there must be an ample commitment between the authorities, companies, sector organisms and citizenship in general. The objective is to make tourism a tool that allows surpassing poverty |
